Farmington is honored
to host the XTERRA America Tour event for a second year on June 6, 2009. The
race features a unique swim/run/bike format and will utilize the fabled
Road Apple Rally course for the mountain bike leg.
The swim will take place at scenic Farmington
Lake, three miles northeast of Farmington on Hwy. 516. The 1,760 yard
distance consists of two 880 yard legs,

incorporating a short beach
run between laps. Water temperatures
are expected to be in the low to mid 70's.
Spectator viewing opportunities are excellent. View Water Temp
at Farmington Lake. The race director will make a decision on whether or not wet suites will be required on race day.
The six mile trail run is a point-to-point jaunt from Farmington Lake
to Lions Wilderness Park. Lions Wilderness Park Amphitheater will also
serve as the run/bike transition area and finish. The run circumvents half the lake perimeter before heading
due west to a few short, steep hills.
Entering Lions Wilderness Park, runners are treated to sandstone benches
leading to arroyo drainages and finally the transition point.
The 19.5 mile bike leg takes place on the venerable Road
Apple course. The Road Apple Rally is the oldest continually
run mountain bike race in North America. The course is
86% mature, hardpacked single-track. It has become known
for its speed, twists and numerous whoops.
